Mark Joseph Sousa, 44, of Waterbury, tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Friday, July 19, 2024. His untimely death has left a profound impact on his family, friends, and the entire Waterbury community.
Mark Sousa spent many years working for Amandio Sousa Paving, a family business, until 2022. He then joined the Local 611 Union and began working for Bancker Construction in Long Island, NY. In addition to his construction career, Mark was deeply involved in the auto industry, working alongside his cousin at J & F Auto in Waterbury. His dedication to his work and his commitment to providing for his family were evident in every job he undertook.
Tragic Accident
On the night of July 19, 2024, Mark was involved in a devastating car accident on Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury. According to the Waterbury Police Department, the collision occurred around 11 p.m. when two cars, an Audi A7 and a Lexus GS 300, collided head-on at high speed. Both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames, and all four individuals involved in the crash were pronounced dead at the scene. Mark Sousa was identified as the driver and sole occupant of the Lexus.
Funeral Arrangements
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours for Mark will be held on Thursday morning prior to the Mass from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
A Loving Family Man
Mark Sousa leaves behind his beloved parents, Amandio and Maria Olimpia Sousa, and his two cherished daughters, Caitlin and Cameron Sousa, both of Waterbury. His family was the center of his world, and he dedicated his life to ensuring their happiness and well-being. Mark is also survived by his two brothers, Michael and Daniel Sousa, both of Waterbury, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever hold his memory dear.
